Consigning a Flute
Consigning has become an increasingly popular method of
selling used instruments this past decade. Most consignment
sites automatically set the selling price with little input
from the owner. However, The Flute Market takes pride in
putting the consignment process back in your control. Thus,
if you are looking to consign your instrument or headjoint,
look no further.
The consignment process begins with
you setting the sale price with assistance and guidance from
The Flute Market. This ensures that you receive the amount
you want for your instrument or headjoint.
If
you are unsure of a sale price for your item, we can
recommend one based on typical sale prices of various
flutes, piccolos, or headjoints in similar condition and
age.
Once
a sale price has been agreed upon, a lower price will not be
accepted from a buyer without expressed consent from you. If
desired, a lower sale price can be requested by you at any
time to expedite a sale. Do remember that a lower sale price
generally means a faster sale, and a price set much too high
means your flute may not sell for a long time, if ever.
Once
your item is listed, The Flute Market works vigorously to
find a buyer for your instrument or headjoint.
Our large network ensures that your item receives the
highest visibility possible. And most importantly, The Flute
Market secures payment, so you do not have to worry about
non-paying customers or scams.
After
your
item is sold, The Flute Market retains a commission from the
advertised price, which is your sale price plus the
commission. The commission rate for intermediate and professional
flutes, piccolos, or headjoints is a very low 10% (minimum $100). For student
flutes, piccolos, or headjoints, the commission is $100.
The Flute Market may lower its commission to sell a flute to
ensure that you receive your desired sale price. Most places
charge a 15% to 20% commission on professional flutes and
don't even deal with student and intermediate models. This
means The Flute Market puts more money in your pocket once a
sale is made.
After
a sale is completed, you will then receive the sale price
you requested, less the cost of any authorized repairs
necessary to sell the item in top condition. While repairs
are not mandatory to list an instrument or headjoint,
please remember that one in its best condition generally
sells faster and for more money. An instrument or headjoint not in top working order will be noted in the selling
price and description to potential buyers.
The Flute Market treats all instruments and headjoints as investments. And since a lot can happen during the
consignment process, all consigned instruments and headjoints are fully insured through
Heritage Insurance
Services.
